Anyone Else Having Trouble with Blingo's Search?

Monday March 31, 2008
I've been using Blingo, a search and win site, for years. It was a great place to win, because they offered the same great search as Google, but with the additional bonus of being able to win fantastic prizes while I went about my everyday behavior of searching for information on the internet.

Recently, however, I've noticed an unpleasant change. The top of the page says that it is now searching Yahoo, MSN, and Ask (note that Google is nowhere to be seen) and the results are showing one sponsored link after another, with no clear delineation between links that advertisers are paying to have and natural search results. Instead, you have to look carefully to see the faint "Sponsored By..." text near the links. I like to use sponsored links sometimes, but I always want to be able to easily make the distinction. Google separates the sponsored links, but Blingo is now showing them peppered through the regular results.

I like the idea of aggregating results from several different search sources, but so far, the results have been that it's more difficult to find the information I'm looking for, instead of returning more useful results. I've started going to Google more often, instead of relying on Blingo for the lion's share of my searches. Have any of you found the new Blingo search to be more difficult to use? Yes. The only reason I started using Blingo was A) it used Google as it’s search B)chance I might get a small kick-back from all the searching I do. I’m going back to my old Google search engine and forgetting about any $5 gift card, free movie tickets, ect. That is how much I value Google and it’s methods.

I just recently heard about Blingo (maybe a month ago), and really enjoyed using it. This change, however, made it almost impossible to use. It seems like the first page is filled with repeat results, and that just makes everything very inefficient.

I emailed their support with no luck. I am thinking the only way they are going to change back to google is if a very large number of their users leave.

Quite sad if you ask me.

Yup. The day of the change I dispatched a letter to their contact address telling them how displeased I was with the change, and I promptly changed my home page back to Google. They really did a disservice to their subscribers. I wonder how much money they’re saving by going this route. This was too good to be true for too long. Adios Blingo.

Do I need a URL? I am new at this. I was using Blingo all of the time because I added it to my toolbar. I won 50.00 a couple of weeks ago but have not received it yet. Does anyone have any idea on how long they take to pay out or get your prize to you? I was pretty disappointed that Google is nowhere to be seen up there anymore as well. Somehow I ended up with “MyPoints” and “Mapquest”? No Clue either.

I use PCH Search and Win, which I think is the same as Blingo. And yes I find it annoying that the sponosored results aren’t seperated from the regular results

I have tried and tried and tried many many sweepstakes, have given away much much money. I’ve learned my lesson in just giving away thousands of dollars on nothing to go on but promises. It is heartbreaking and discouraging, though I keep trying hoping that some day, there will be some truth to all of this.

Ann, you shouldn’t have to pay any money to win sweepstakes. If you haven’t already, you might want to familiarize yourself with the Top Warning Signs of Sweepstakes Scams.

After that, try entering the sweepstakes that I’ve hand-picked for my readers. For example, the numbered sweepstakes on the cash sweepstakes list.
