Problems with Hearst Magazine Sweepstakes

Friday October 10, 2008
Many people are reporting trouble with Hearst Magazine's creative presentation sweepstakes. Hearst is holding creative presentations across several of its magazines including Good Housekeeping, Country Living Magazine, Home Beautiful, Redbook, Seventeen, and more with a chance to win $250,000. Many, though not all, of these sweepstakes have been branded as "Dare to Dream Sweepstakes."

For the past few days, people who have tried to enter these sweepstakes have received the following error message:

Sorry but you must agree to the terms to submit your entry.
This is the type of message you usually receive when you have missed a check box to agree to the rules, but the Hearst Magazine Sweepstakes don't have any visible check box to click.

This appears to be a glitch on the part of Hearst Magazines, not something that entrants are overlooking. There are some other problems on the website as well, like the Customer Service link not loading. I have contacted one of the Hearst publications about this issue, but in the meantime, the best thing to do is to keep checking back to the site, and enter some other great sweepstakes in the meantime.

I discovered that the problem can be solved by clicking “yes” and then back to “no” on the subscription, and then “no” back to “yes” on the two email newsletter permissions.

I also got the “Sorry you must agree to terms” message for one day, but now I have noticed that the icon in front of each of the magazines, Redbook, Goodhousekeeping, etc. that I have saved in Favorites is now BT rather than the usual e for Windows Explorer. If I go directly to the entry from the website, the address will change from beginning with the e in front of the address, to BT in from of the of the website address. I have emailed customer service but have received no reply. Has anyone else noticed this problem and what does the BT mean?

(12) Lynne says:

Well I just tried entering the sweepstakes, Fantasy Fund Sweepstakes, aka Pay off your mortgage, at mortgage.countryliving.com for the S100,000 and what comes up is the same sweeps you all are talking about for the @250,000 and that says its no longer running.

I think either these aren’t real or they have a lot of problems setting them up??? I haven’t entered too many sweepstakes so maybe this is just the frustration one has to deal with in order to enter? So much for my sweepstakes career!

Back in April, I too tried to enter a sweepstakes and instead was signed up for a mag subscrition to Oprah. I sent them an email to tell them that I was not interested in the subscription but never heard back from them. Last week I received a letter from a credit collector for a magazine I never received or ordered. I just got off the phone with the company and they said they never received my email but that they were going to “cancel” it and take care of the credit services. I think these people need to be reported for their scam and Oprah needs to know that they are using a link on her website to do this.

I tried to enter the “Win a Million Contest” through Country Living online and ended up being told that I would be charged $10. for the magazine, which I already had a subscription to. I had to make numerous phone calls to get the problem solved.

Go to the link where it says “$1000000 Sweepstakes”. In fine print it will say “if you are already a subscriber CLICK HERE”.
