Warning about Timeshare Calls Disguised as Richard Petty Sweepstakes Wins
I've had a few people report to me recently that they've been receiving calls that they've "won" tickets to a Richard Petty Driving Experience, when really the callers are just trying to get you to agree to go to a timeshare presentation. Red flags started going off when the "winners" were asked for credit card information or were told that they'd be put up in the callers' hotel for a cost of only a few hundred dollars.
This is tricky because there have been some Richard Petty prizes in sweepstakes that have ended recently which did not include transportation. But when transportation is not included, you are free to make your own arrangements, you won't have to stay at a sponsor's hotel for a high rate.
Remember that real wins come with no strings attached. You don't have to listen to presentations or sales pitches, you don't have to stay in a certain hotel, and you don't have to hand over a credit card or send in a check to receive them. Anytime you are pressured to accept or asked for money, you should start hearing warning bells in your mind that it's probably a sales tactic and not a real sweepstakes win.

I received a call from the richard petty sweepstakes today claiming that i was one of 300 selected to win a nascar jacket, hat, a free one year membership. He explained it all to me then asked for my debit or credit card info. I told him i would rather not and he said he could email the information for me to look over before i payed this 9.95 for shipping…sound fishy or could this be real?
LET ME TELL YOU…..FISHY!!! I DID GIVE MY CREDIT CARD # AND NOW IT HAS BEEN CHARGED TWO PAYMENTS SO FAR OF $59.95 AND RECEIVED NOTHING!!!!!
Gary, please remember that you never have to give out credit card information to receive a real prize.
If I were you, I’d contact the credit card company to discuss making a charge-back on those scam charges.
