According to an article on LehighValleyLive.com, 17,500 people received the winning email.
The exact number of winners seems to vary from report to report. Taiwan News reports 8,500 people won tickets, but later in the same article says that 11,000 people will receive tickets to the Staples Center, and another 6,500 to the Nokia Theater overflow section next door. The sweepstakes rules said that 5,500 tickets would be given out, randomly distributed between Staples Center and the Nokia Theater.
The setup of the giveaway does seem to have discouraged scalpers. In order to be admitted to the memorial service, winners will need to have their ID matched to the winning notification. They'll then receive a wristband, which is required along with the tickets for admittance.
There is one Michael Jackson Funeral Ticket Auction up on eBay, but it ends well after the funeral.
Everyone who entered was notified by email whether they won or not. If you entered and didn't receive a response on Sunday, check your spam folders to see if the win notice might be there.

I didn’t WIN, but I have a nice “sorry” email to save forever! lol
I entered the contest and didn’t win. I did not even get a response from my entry. lol
I entered to win tickets and armbands for the funeral, however I think they chose people that are in California already. All the people that won tickets that were interviewed we in California.
I just received a link stating that I was not selected and that many entered. It just came on Monday.
I entered but received no e-mail
I didn’t enter because I wouldn’t want to go (and can’t) but I just read in the paper that people are selling their tickets for thousands of dollars. Now I wish I entered… if it’s illegal to sell those tickets I’m joking if not…
Well, to get in to the ceremony, you need to have a wristband and a ticket. To get the wristband, you have to verify your ID. So the person who wins has to go (unless there’s something sneaky I don’t know about). But the second ticket could be given (or sold) to anyone who goes along with the winner.
i would have loved to attend my daughters last names are jackson and my youngest who is now 33 has always loved michael and always said he was her brother,we are all heart broken and wish only the best for his family..
my heart go out to his kids and family .
I think that it is discusting that any sort of monies for the Michael Jackson send off ever cam about. I just wonder how many of those who payed anything ever sent money to support our young men and woman fighting to keep us free. I agree, that he was a very talented person, but he’s just a person, no royalty, not a Pope, and certainly not God. It makes me sick to think that such things like this ever come about.
Michael Jackson is an inventor I would say. His dance steps, voice, walk, style (clothing etc), sparkling innocent smile, too cool hair styles, talk, big eyes, love for his fans, his kids, talent way beyond his age – everything he does was just so UNIQUE in itself. The whole world went on copied him in everyway they could, other musicians would copy his melody, dance, style but, one thing we all know is “There is no other Michael Jackson on earth, there never is going to be one, no matter how much one tries”. Another important thing to remember is, his personal life is none of our business. He changed his nose because he had a nickname “fat/big nose” in his family, and he looks handsome than ever anyway after nose job. He made it very clear that he is proud of his color and never wanted to change it but loosing color was uncontrollable due to a disease called ‘vitiligo’. And please, he is 5.11 and 120 pounds only to maintain a dancer body, he sacrificed his life for music/dance, never would have done something bad to have charges against him, completely innocent man who loves his kids and spend so much on charity. And abt drugs, it all began mostly after he was accused of charges, he lost the love of most fans, ofcourse he would go crazy and get addicted to pain killers etc… Overall, I would end saying he is the BEST, no one can ever match him. From age 5 to 50, he had most wonderful career, how awesome did he look on last rehearsal dance. oh well, the world will miss MJ, even the people who were filled with jealousy would miss him now……
