January Prize Round-Up. What Did You Win in January 2010?

By February 1, 2010

Follow me on:

It's the beginning of the month, which means that it's once again time to look back over the previous months and the wins that you received.

In January, I received my very first win notification by telephone. It seems amazing, but in all of my years of sweeping, all of my win notices have come by email or postal mail. So it was exciting to actually speak to a sponsor, and to hear how excited she was to notify me of my win.

I also received a free game download from Steam, for the game Osmos. This is an unusual game, where you play a single-celled organism that grows by consuming other organisms, but has to avoid being consumed by those that are even larger. It's a fun game, and its soundtrack is very soothing, so I've been enjoying it very much.

How about you? What did you win in January 2010? Click on the "Comments" link below to tell us about your wins, big or small.

Sorry January was slow for you, Jeff, but those prizes sure are sweet! Here’s hoping that February is even better :)

(3) Jeff says:

Thanks – same to you. I was interested about you receiving the phone call notification because we usually don’t answer calls for numbers we don’t know. That would be a really fun way to find out about winning.

Another month with a theme! I won six sets of movie tickets – all two at a time – from different places, Melting Pot, Coke, Fandango and more. Also won a $100 Footlocker card, two candy bars from Mars – although no emails yet, 1 salsa, $10 Cheerios, $25 NHL.com and a spittoon! See you at the movies!

Did anyone recieve a “win” notification from Whistler tourism for Victory Ceremony tickets? I did, via e-mail, and it was retracted as a “mistake” 2 minutes later! How bogus. Doesn’t give me incentive to enter their contest again.
The other wins were real, but slim, and limited to salsa, cupcakes, & cereal. Tasty, but ya know…

(9) Sandra Grauschopf, Guide to Contests says:

Jeff, I do recommend answering phone calls that come through your sweepstakes phone number. Many sponsors that call to tell you about wins won’t leave messages, and their numbers may be blocked.

January was my best month yet…and I’m only a 20-30 entry a day sweeper! Free jar of Pace, Barbie or Barbie furniture (hasn’t arrived yet), 3 cases of SmartWater/6 cases of PopChips/$100 to lululemon/free month at The Dailey Method and one $25 cash card from Coke!

(12) Carrie B. says:

This month was good, considering I just started doing sweeps in December. I won a E.L.F. 83-pc Makeup Kit, a big
Etsy Gift Bag Sampler, and a paperback memoir book. I consider that a plus.

Good to know about the numbers. I got two while I was on vacation that I didn’t get to in time. I hope they were not contests! I am choosing to believe that they were the utility companies!!! ;-)

(15) Sandra Grauschopf, Guide to Contests says:

Sandy, I didn’t get an email like that. I’m sorry for the disappointment! That’s one reason why it’s important not to get your hopes toooo set on that win until the final papers are signed.

Here’s hoping a nice big prize is on its way to you!

(16) Sandra Grauschopf, Guide to Contests says:

Dot and Kent, thanks for the congratulations! It was a prize pack from a local radio station. I entered in a drop box at the information booth at the mall, so I’d totally forgotten I’d entered. I haven’t received the pack yet, but I hear it has a CD from a local group and gift certificates for stores in the area, so it sounds like a really fun prize :)

I keep hoping its because I’m going to win a super huge prize one day, like maybe the Dream Home in NM (lol). I try not to let the no wins discourage me. I know that one day I will win something.

Carrie, I missed a blocked number that called three times (the number of times that many sweepstakes sponsors say they’ll call before choosing another winner.) I’m going with your outlook and thinking it was just a telemarketer! Congratulations on the prizes you did receive last month :)

(39) Djuana says:

Won a bottle of Advil. Looking forward to February! I agree with Sandra on the phone call notifications. I didn’t answer once and get this the same number called twice in row. My lightning fast mind then tried to answer but I was too slow and when I tried to call back it was blocked. I tried to look up the number and found some clues that it was the Ellen Degeneres show. I regret it to this day!

(40) Carrie B. says:

Just some advice for Kate M… If you want to get some wins under your belt, spend 10 minutes a day entering blogger contests. I won a lot of mine via “mommy bloggers” and “review bloggers”. Sandra’s page is, in my opinion, one of the BEST sites for big contests, but there are other sites for blog contests. They take a little more time, but the pools are so much smaller. (However, the prizes are on the same scale… usually $200/less in ARV.) Get a Twitter account in addition to your contest e-mail and you’ll be in the money. (I have a second Twitter just for contests, so I don’t have to spam myself or followers with contest stuff.)

You’re right about expecting phone notification. Someone called and did leave a message for me. So I called right back and was informed that I won a $250 value maintenance package from Nissan in the Keep Summer Going contest – 4 oil changes and 2 tire rotations to be taken this year. I felt like the Dad in The Christmas Story “I’m a major award winner!”

I am getting really wondering if Publishers Clearing House gives prizes. They have been telling people they are coming to Wheat Ridge Colorado for 2 years and the nearest flower shop is 5 blocks from my house. They have never come here and as far as I am concerned they are just trying to sell things.
