According to an article on TCPalm.com, the winner was Mary Lamalie. The Stuart, Florida woman cares for her 74-year-old husband, who suffers both from Alzheimers and the after-effects of several strokes.
Although caring for her husband alone with no family nearby is hard work, and sometimes her husband doesn't even recognize her as his wife, Mary Lamalie said, "I want to be with him. We've had a wonderful love. I wouldn't feel right being away from him, and he is most secure when the two of us are together. As long as I am able, this is what I'll do."
The $4,000 grand prize included a Caribbean cruise and in-home care for Mary Lamalie's husband while she was gone.
It's always wonderful to hear stories about deserving people winning contests, and Mary Lamalie's story sounds like one of the best. A huge congratulations to her!
