Definition:
Flash sweepstakes are called that way because they use a special type of program to create their animation called Flash. Flash has a few advantages over regular animation, one of which is the ability to display animation without having to wait for the entire file to load. This means that sweepstakes can employ more complex and sophisticated graphics without making the loading time for each page become extremely long.

For example, sweepstakes like the Fred Claus Instant Win Sweepstakes use Flash to create effects like falling snowflakes, elves that walk around the screen, fun games that people can play, and presents that move when you put your cursor over them, and short movies that tell you what to do on the site. Only Flash would allow sponsors to make their site so interactive without taking so long to load that people would give up in frustration.

Aside from all of its advantages, Flash does have two disadvantages:

  1. Flash Sweepstakes Take Longer to Enter.
Neither Roboform nor the auto-fill function on browsers can fill out Flash forms.
  2. Not All Computers Support Flash.
Some people have trouble displaying Flash sweepstakes.
Examples:
Flash sweepstakes require plug-ins to work.
