Beringer - Great Steak Challenge Recipe Contest

Do you have a grilled steak recipe that's both delicious and simple to prepare? If so, enter it along with your recommendation for a Beringer wine to go with it into the Great Steak Challenge Contest for your chance to win a trip to Napa, California to compete in a cook-off. If you win the cook-off, you'll receive $15,000! Other prizes include $7,500 or $2,500 cash, trips to Napa, and more.

Regional Finalist Prizes: (100): Up to $1,000 spending cash to use towards travel expenses, an opportunity to compete in the Regional Grill-off for the region in which they entered, and a chance to advance to the National Cook Off at Beringer Vineyards in Napa Valley. (ARV: $1,000)

Regional Grill-off Winners (10): A trip for 2 to the Beringers Vineyards in Napa, CA. Trip includes airfare, rental car, hotel stay near Beringer Vineyards in Napa Valley, winery tours, exclusive tastings at Fosters Wine Estates' Properties, and meal vouchers. (ARV: $5,000)

Cook-Off Prizes:

National Grand Prize (Overall best recipe): $15,000 Cash in the form of a check. (ARV: $15,000)

National Runner-up Prize: $7,500 cash. (ARV: $7,000)

National Second Runner-up Prize: $2,500 cash. (ARV: $2,500)

Additional Comments:

To enter, submit your best recipe for steak prepared on the grill. Your recipe must be able to be prepared in 30 minutes or less and must also include a recommended wine pairing from the Beringer Founders' Estate portfolio that best compliments the steak recipe.

Entries will be judged on the basis of Taste Appeal (25%), Wine Pairing (25%), and Simplicity (50%). 10 finalists from each region will be chosen to compete in a regional cook-off. At the regional cook-off, the entries will be chosen on the basis of Originality (25%), Taste (25%), Wine Pairing (25%), and Simplicity (25%).

The winners of the regional cook-offs will proceed to the national cook-off, where the recipes will again be judged on the basis of Originality (25%), Taste (25%), Wine Pairing (25%), and Simplicity (25%).

  • Region 2: AZ, NV, NM. Enter from 3/1/10 - 5/31/10.
  • Region 3: IA, NE, MO, KS, CO, WY. Enter from 4/1/10 - 6/15/10.
  • Region 4: MD, DC, PA, DE, NJ, NY. Enter from 5/1/10 - 6/30/10.
  • Region 5: IL, WI, MN, ND, SD. Enter from 3/1/10 - 6/30/10.
  • Region 6: FL, AL, GA. Enter from 4/1/10 - 6/30/10.
  • Region 7: TX, LA, OK, AR, MS. Enter from 4/1/10 - 6/30/10.
  • Region 8: IN, KY, MI, OH. Enter from 3/1/10 - 6/30/10.
  • Region 9: CT, MA, NH, VT, RI, ME. Enter from 4/1/10 - 6/30/10.
  • Region 10: NC, SC, VA, WV, TN. Enter from 4/1/10 - 6/15/10.
