If I'm entering daily sweepstakes, how long do I have to wait between entries? Do I wait exactly a day, or can I enter a few hours earlier?
How long you have to wait between entries in daily sweepstakes depends on how the entry frequency is described in the rules. There are two basic types of sweepstakes that you can enter once per day:
- 24-Hour Sweepstakes
With 24-hour sweepstakes, you need to wait at least 24 hours to submit your next entry. So if you enter at 10 pm on Friday, your next entry can't be submitted before 10 pm on Saturday.
How to Recognize 24-Hour Sweepstakes
You can tell that The Fabric of Our Lives' Romantic Bedroom Sweepstakes was a 24-hour sweepstakes because it had the following phrase in the rules:
"Limit one entry in each twenty-four hour period per valid e-mail address."
- Daily Sweepstakes
With regular daily sweepstakes, each day is its own individual entry period, and you can enter once per entry period. So if an entry period is defined as running from 12:00 am until 11:59 pm and you enter at 10 pm on Friday, you can enter again as early as 12 am on Saturday, even though that's only two hours later.
How to Recognize Daily Sweepstakes
You can tell that Century 21's Path To Your Dreams Sweepstakes is a daily entry sweepstakes because of this phrase in the rules:
"Limit one (1) entry per person/email address per day."
Some sweepstakes will specifically describe the hours for each entry period. Note the time zones when you're entering; if you try to enter sweepstakes that runs on Pacific Time just after midnight on the East Coast, you will probably be entering too early, thanks to the 3-hour time difference.
In my experience, more sweepstakes fall under the daily entry period type than the 24-hour type. Most 24-hour sweepstakes will also warn you if you attempt to enter too often. Although it's a good idea to read the rules carefully, to avoid being disqualified for duplicate entries.
