Potential Winner Definition - What is a Potential Winner?

By

Definition:

When sweepstakes sponsors first draw your name as a winner, you are actually a potential winner.

Becoming a potential winner is just the first step in actually receiving your prize. After your name is drawn, the sponsor has to verify your win before you become an official winner.

The verification process may include some or all of the following steps:

  • Ensuring that you did not exceed the entry restrictions.
  • Ensuring that you meet all eligibility requirements.
  • Verifying your identity with an affidavit.
  • Ensuring that there was no technical problem with the sweepstakes that caused your name to be pulled in error.
Sponsors may follow various other steps to ensure that all of the sweepstakes rules were followed, and the correct winner was drawn.

Note that being named a potential winner does not mean that you may not have won a prize. After all of these steps have been completed without problem, the potential winner becomes an official winner, and the prize can be shipped to you.

Congratulations! You are a potential winner of a prize in the Have It Your Way Sweepstakes (subject to verification)!
