Winner's Quote:
I had to write an essay about how I had found my way to an adventure. I am attaching the essay below:
A scary adventure I truly was not seeking;
A hiking trip with seniors appeared to be more sight seeing.
Venturing out on a hike in San Diego’s golden hills;
We weren’t looking for any dangerous thrills.
A morning filled with hiking for exercise and fun;
A day to enjoy each other and spend time in the sun.
That is how it all started but it is not how it turned out;
What started as fun soon gave us all reason to shout.
We had started on a path that was clearly marked;
But near the top of the mountain the leader did the trail disembark.
We now hiked the mountain in tall flowing grass;
Not on a trail and with no room to pass.
I was second in the group just steps behind the first;
The perfect spot I thought but it turned out to be the worse.
Now to the scary part that is truth and not fiction;
We were hiking it turns out during a rattle snake convention.
Thank goodness for me I was watching my feet;
Because a coiled and rattling snake lay just underneath.
As I had never before heard such a frightening sound;
I screamed like a good girl and turned directly around.
Like I had said before we were all off the trail;
The seniors behind me that were once hardy now seemed frail.
We all turned around quickly leaving the leader behind;
It seems he didn’t believe me that a snake I did find.
So I took charge of the group and led them to a clearing;
We took a look around and saw several snakes their heads now rearing.
We didn’t wait for the word or the still hiking leader;
We headed down the mountain with me now the leader.
I led us down safely and calmed frazzled nerves;
Back down to the trail head to calm and reserve.
So ends my story of finding my way out adventure;
Submitted to Swiss Army for your reading pleasure.
A perfect skiing vacation I would truly like to win;
So to you this clever rhyming essay I do send.
