The Green Home Sweepstakes, which began in 2008, features a home that is both beautiful and environmentally-friendly, which is built and given away by HGTV. The Green Home design team focuses on everything from location (to cut down on gas wasted when driving to stores) to durability (to reduce waste) to water and energy efficiency.
The Green Home Sweepstakes' total prize value is usually less than HGTV's famous Dream Home Sweepstakes, but that also means that it's easier for the winner to actually keep the home.

HGTV's Green Home 2009 Sweepstakes was open for entry from April 17, 2009 through June 5, 2009. The winner announcement was aired on the HGTV network on June 28, 2009.
Location of the 2009 Green Home:
The 2009 Green Home was built in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Port St. Lucie is a beautiful, uncrowded oceanside paradise in Florida's Treasure Coast, which boasts wide open skies, white sand beaches, and green palm trees. Port St. Lucie is just north of Palm Beach and south of Orlando. For baseball fans, it's also home to the New York Mets' training grounds, meaning that you can run into professional baseball stars at any time.

The house planner was
Jack Thomasson, a highly-experienced home and landscaping designer. The interior designer was
Linda Woodrum, who has worked all 12 of HGTV's Dream Homes.
Special Features of the 2009 HGTV Green Home :
The 2009 Green Home is a single-story T-shaped home, with the shorter side of the T tilted on a bias. This leaves a huge area for an outdoor screened-in porch.
The interior features a large open area consisting of a foyer, living area, dining area, and lounge. The areas flow into one another gracefully.
The home features a master bedroom with its own huge bath and a huge walk-in closet, a chidren's room and a guest bedroom which share a bath, and a third bathroom off of the dining room.
