Roboform Tip: How to Use Roboform to Avoid Unwanted Opt-Ins

How to Use Roboform's "Clear Fields" Option

By , About.com Guide

Have you ever overlooked a check box when entering sweepstakes, and ended up subscribing to a magazine or newsletter you didn't want? These tricky opt-outs can result in a lot of hassle, due to overstuffed in-boxes or the inconvenience of trying to unsubscribe from a magazine you never wanted to begin with. But Roboform's "Clear Fields" option can help you avoid tricky opt-outs.

How Roboform's Clear Fields Option Works:

The "Clear Fields" option in Roboform will completely clear a sweepstakes entry form, giving you a blank slate for your entries. This means that any newsletter or magazine subscriptions that are helpfully pre-checked for you will also be cleared.

How to Use Roboform's Clear Fields Option:

In order to use this option, you must have Roboform installed. I believe this option is available with both the free and the paid versions of Roboform.

To start, add the Clear Forms button to your Roboform toolbar. Here's how:

  1. Right-click on the RoboForm button on the Roboform toolbar. Select the Customize Toolbar option.
  2. Scroll through the options on the left-hand side until you see "Clear Fields."
  3. Click on the "Clear Fields" option and add it to the visible buttons on your Roboform toolbar.
Now, when you visit a new sweepstakes entry form, click the "Clear Fields" button before you start to enter and all of the options will be completely blank.

TIP: Note that some sweepstakes forms ask you to check a box if you don't want to receive newsletters or subscriptions, so make sure you read the options carefully before submitting.
