So according to this my odds of winning $1,000,000.00 are better the either $10,000.00 or $5,000.00?
Nicole, weird, right? The odds come straight from the McDonald’s Monopoly Official Rules. So unless they made a typo in the rules, it sure seems like it.

I think its because its likely that the odds are calculated as the odds of finding all of the pieces, not just the rare one. So the odds of winning the $1,000,000 are technically better because you only need to collect two pieces. Whereas the others you need at least 3 pieces, making the odds worse.
Better odds to win $1,000,000 means more people trying for it.

Actually the odds will be exactly the same regardless of how many people play. Hughberto is correct though. Increasing the odds of winning $1,000,000 means more people will play.

In the official rules, McDonalds says “approximate odds” not actual odds, and who knows how they’re calculating it. Also, McD official rules say the odds are based on getting the entire set, not just the rare piece.
It seems likely to me that they would have to print exactly 2 Boardwalk and 20 Vermont Ave. If they printed more than the number of prizes, they’d risk having too many winners. And if they printed less, it would be impossible for every prize to be won.
So based on rare pieces alone, the odds of winning $5,000 should be 10X better than winning a $1,000,000. Of course, in the grand scheme of things, this isn’t much of a difference.
So when you factor in the common game pieces you also need to win, the odds of winning $1,000,000 seems to shift to become more favorable than the $5,000, but that’s only if you consider a fixed number of game pieces. In other words, if I have five game pieces in my hand, the chances that I have everything needed to win $1,000,000 is slightly better than for $5,000. In reality though, once someone gets a rare piece, they won’t stop buying game pieces until they also get the common ones they need, which isn’t that hard. So for all practical purposes, comparing the “approximate odds” is meaningless.
surprised no one is trying to trade on here yet. every year a bunch of different idiots are always saying things like “I have 4 park places, looking to trade one for a boardwalk” i mean how can people be so stupid. Then of course there are the other people that tease them, saying they have boardwalk and wanna trade. check back in a month or two, if you really want to see how dumb some people are.

You guys obviously don’t read the fine print. Out of 300$ million in prizes, 290$ million are food prizes. There is only 1 million dollar reward and more pieces out for a chance I win 10k or any of the other cash prizes.
Smartass, the “fine print” reads: “Collect Park Place (#945) and Boardwalk (#946) to win a prize of One Million Dollars ($1,000,000*). Two (2) prizes are available in the Territory (*payable $50,000/yr. for 20 yrs. no interest). ” (emphasis mine). So yes, there are two million-dollar prizes being awarded.
Odds are that the winning boardwalk game piece was thrown away and will never be won than actually winning in the first place.

clearly many of these odds are wrong….its states its easier to win the million dollar prize then many of the prizes, which only having winning winning boardwalks vs. the 20 ventnors winning pieces. Not to mention the different statistics for the different ones that have the same amount of winners

People have to realize that there is a large chance that someone will throw away the rare pieces. No everyone follows the game closely, so the odds may be based on the number of pieces, or an estimation based on the idea that many will end up in the trash.

This game is a dumpster divers dream. Really, It amazes me how many people throw away peices. I found a cup in the trash unpeeled. Had a free breakfast. I think mcdonalds counts on boardwalk ending up a trash dump.

There is definitely something wonky with the numbers. If there are 8500 “Mediterranean Avenue” and the odds are 1 in 402,602 that must mean they expect to print about 3.5Billion tickets. But, if there are 2 Boardwalks and odds are 1 in 306 Million, that would mean about 600 Million tickets printed, which is a significant disparity.
My guess is that McDonalds doesn’t know how many they will print and they don’t necessarily guarantee how many of the top prizes will be printed. Some of the lower prize tickets might not be printed until a certain number of tickets are distributed, but they will guarantee printing the 2 million dollar tickets which gives those better odds of being found. There definitely are some unknown factors involved.

I believe that you need some public winners. Some real feel good stories. People are not talking good about your company right now because of this Monopoly game. Either quit it or let people win. It all depends on how you figure the odds. Statistics are a funny thing, which is exactly why people use them so much. You can pretty much make any statistic say what ever you want if you incorporate the right numbers in there somewhere. The bottom line is that the person who wins any contest is usually the one who is not trying as hard as all the raging losers.

Only 1 time did i ever have broadwalk. 3 years ago I got it at a mcdonalds in san diego next to the Octapharma Plasma center. I tried to get park place but no one had it, even called friends in other states nothing.
i thing its a time based event and toward the end of the contest they push out the few winning pieces or at the beginning they put out a few winning pieces. the rest of the time you just get the same stuff.

The reason the odds are confusing is the distribution method. Many of the math attempts in comments above assume nominal distribution of the winning tickets, and according to the rules that isn’t what happens.

You people who want to trade or share are kidding right? Why would anyone with a piece worth $20,000 or $1,000,000,000 want to share with you? You could easily get any of the game pieces any of you have for the cost of a few orders of fries. America is doomed.
Here is the deal. There are NO odds in winning. The people that have these winning pieces already know which shipment they are sending them to. So maybe your actual odds are how many people have purchased from the McDonald’s they sent it too and was the enough people that bought the product for it to be distributed?
The problem with this is that as company they know where and when those prizes are getting handed out. It is called marketing control. The odds of them selecting your State/City/Restaurant is 1 in 1. You say WHAT THE HECK? Yes, One person selects one shipment and sends it on its way. That is your probability in odds.

I think the cause of this is because that is the odds of getting all the pieces. Since Park Place is very common, and the other colors you mentioned have three pieces to them, it would be less likely to collect all of them.

in the game Monopoly, Boardwalk costs more than Park Place, so it makes sense that its the rare piece. Then why are all the other rare pieces the cheaper properties? A: because Mcdonalds wants you to think that when you get New York Avenue or Marvin Gardens etc. you have a winner and all you have to do is buy a few more large fries. The wife had Pennsylvania ave. at work in Edinboro pa . She had it laying on the dinner table. She takes care of an individual with disabilities at his home. A roomate looked at her game pieces and said,” Oh you have Pennsylvania ave., I hear thats the hard one to get.” The wife looked at it and said it is. My wife put it in her cigerate case and brought it home and put it on the dining room table with other pieces. we went to Mcdonalds a few days later, on the way to town my wife says I hope we get the other two pieces I have Pennsylvania Ave. at home, You do I said all excited. In Meadville park Ave Mcdonalds we got Pacific and North Carolina. went home and could not find Pennsylvania ave with the other game piecs. Well anyway I won redbox, 1/4 pounders, fries breakfast sandwiches. I am crying an $18,500 Fiat 500, and we had all the game pieces. I am taking it harder than my wife, I just can’t believe it’s gone. 20 will be given away maybe, i wonder where our game piece is or were they just mistaken. I get the tabs on my morning coffee everyday. I’m not a huge fan of the food, usually the most ill order is a muffin or a Mcdouble. I did win a 25$ gift card and that lame snapfish prize (which I’m not claiming). I’ve filled the whole board minus the rates of course. However, I look forward to going in and claiming the 6 muffins, 7, small fries, 3 small snack size smoothies, 4 small soft drinks and the 2 cheeseburgers I’ve won. Like anything in the corporate world its all about luck, and you may have been hand choosen to begin with, think about it, do you think these guys are just running the machine sending out boardwalk to some random location, I think they strategically plant the game piece at a mcdonalds of there choice until somebody realizes they have boardwalk and come forth, or you can go a little deeper and believe that the company highers a shill that didn’t actual win playing against the clown with the motto your dollar stops here. Do you not understand that in each set of properties, one of the deeds is incredibly rare (e.g. Boardwalk)? Of course you have have Park Place. There are millions of Park Place pieces out there, and only one Boardwalk. And yet I keep seeing “I have Park Place! Anyone have Boardwalk and want to split?” Anyone who would take you up on that offer would have to be fucking stupider than a brain damaged three year old.

A few years ago, my parents got the Boardwalk Piece. They were SUPER EXCITED. But somehow, they lost it in or around the house, in the trash, SomEwHeRe!!!
I spent hours with them looking for it, never to find it. For the next couple of years they lamented their lost $1,000,000. But then I heard about the scam that was run, where employees with access to the winning tickets were stealing them and giving them to family or friends.
So it turns out my parents COULDN’T have had Boardwalk, they must have mistaken it for Park Place somehow, so they never really lost the money. But they sure had me digging through trash for hours…
I was in new york for 2 weeks from sept 15th to the 30th.. I went to mcdonalds on 1st ave and 76th street and I have a boardwalk game piece. I really thought that I had the easy piece to get so i put it in my wallet and said maybe some lucky person will get the park place… I live in the caribbean and I am back home.. I will take pics of the piece and post it on my facebook page for verification.. Imagine that
